Since 1975, the importance of the relationship between the parents and the doctors who care for neonates has been studied. The parents were interviewed from the time for admission and the interview analysed. The data show that allowing parents into the Unit, their participation in the care of the infants and above all their discussion with the doctors and nursing staff improved their relationship with the baby and the understanding of the illness.
