The incidence of IHD during the social-economic and scientific-technical progress in the district of Vidin was studied for the period 1957-1976. The relative share of IHD was 39.4 per cent at necropsies, increased from 8.6 per cent to 60.7 per cent; IHD had directly caused death in 22.6 per cent of the necropsies, growing from 8.6 per cent to 37.2 per cent. IHD ranks first -- 31.7 per cent of the total mortality in the district; 328.10 per 100 000 population died of IHD. The hospitalized morbidity was 17.7 per cent, growing from 12.2 per cent to 28.9 per cent. Via a planned selective screening, during examinations of 4364 employees and workers at an average age of 44.06, IHD was found in 9.9 per cent (6.6 per cent positive, 3,3 per cent probable IHD). In 28.1 per cent the diagnosis was made on the base of the standard questionnaire for stenocardia during strain, in 47.3 per cent on the base of ECG data and in 24.6 per cent on the base of the standard questionnaire and ECG data.
