In this third part of a series on the scorpions of the Grand Maghreb region [see preceding abstract, etc.], the findings are given of laboratory studies on the chemical constituents of the haemolymph and toxins that are both contained in the venom of Androctonus mauretanicus (Pocock) from Morocco, and the analytical techniques used are described. The haemolymph was found to contain haemocyanin and other compounds of lower molecular weight, while the toxins (known as scorpamines) are heat-resistant, susceptible to retention on reticulated gels (which was however reversible) and strongly basic.
