A clinical retrospective study of the intracholedochal application of heparinized saline (20,000 units of sodium heparin in 250 ml of normal saline every 8 h) in continuous drip infusion to 9 patients with retained common duct stones is presented. Solution of common duct stones was verified radiologically in 3 patients, encouraging continued conservative management and suggestion of the method in every similar case prior to surgical intervention. The treatment should be continued for at least 2 wk.
