Lipid profile was studied in 33 cases of chronic renal failure. Serum cholesterol, phospholipids, triglycerides and lipoproteins were estimated in all the patients. Response to a load of triglycerides was studied in 11 patients, 4 of whom were also administered heparin along with triglycerides. Only 3 of the 33 patients showed raised cholesterol levels. None of the patients showed triglyceride level exceeding 150 mg%. The mean values of serum cholesterol, phospholipids, triglycerides and lipoproteins were within normal limits. The mean coefficient of utilization of exogenous triglycerides was within the normal range. There was no correlation between the severity or duration of the renal failure and serum lipids. Absence of hyperlipidemia was a significant finding in this series.
