In this general review, emphasis is laid on the necessity for thorough cleansing of the ear canal and examination of discharge microscopically and in culture. Pityrosporum [Malassezia] infection may be undetected except by these methods and well-established mycotic infections involving M. or Candida may require treatment with miconazole or cuprimyxin.
