An analysis of the efficacy of intensive complex cervico-isthmical incompetence treatment was presented. The therapy was based on circular cervical suture with application of i.v. drip of fenoterol preparation in the post-operative period, followed by oral administration of the same drug in a daily dose of 8 tablets up to the 37th wk of gestation. Such treatment was applied to 305 pregnant patients. The cervico-isthmical incompetence diagnosis was based on generally accepted criteria. Surgery was performed between the 18th and 34th wk of gestational. Viable fetuses were born in 83.9% of women (256 babies). In a previous period in an analogous group of women with cervico-isthmical incompetence only 92 viable babies were delivered in 474 pregnancies (19.4%). The obstetrical result improvement in complex treatment argues on behalf of such a treatment method. The most frequent complication of the applied treatment was betamimetic-resistant uterine contractility (28 cases). Further cases of failure were: premature amniotic membrane rupture (13 cases) and infection (7 cases).
