The influence of humic acids from the Aleksandria deposit brown coal on the growth of bacteria P. putida was studied on 2 substrates, e.g., glucose and naphthalene. Humic acids from brown coal (0.0001-0.0003%) increased the growth rate of the bacteria. The stimulating action of polyphenols and quinones on the P. putida growth is marked. The stimulating action of humic acids on the bacteria probably is the participation of their phenol hydroxyls and quinoid groups in the redox processes of a bacterial cell.
