Isolated cases of fibroma development in different parts of the human body constitute an unusual condition which usually has been attributed to injury. Besides injury, it was cited in the international literature that certain drugs, such as diphenylhydantoin, when given for long periods of time cause excessive development of connective tissue on the gingiva which was described as hyperplastic gingivitis. A case of 1 patient is reported, who for many years was receiving drugs which belong to the phenothiazines and butyrphenone. These drugs, like diphenylhydantoin, produce a similar enzymatic induction. The administration of these drugs to this patient, for long periods of time, has probably constituted the predisposing factor so that the small injury might have created at this site a hyperplasia of the fibrous tissue and, finally, the development of fibroma.
