Follow-up study of thymomas

Patients (96) with thymoma were followed up, and the factors influencing the prognosis were investigated. Survival rates were as follows: 1 yr 84.3%, 3 yr 77.1%, 5 yr 74.1% and 10 yr 57.1%, respectively. The 5 yr survival rate was 88.9% in radical resection cases, and 44.4% in other cases. Survival rates of MG and non-MG group were not different at 5 yr, but that of MG group was lower than non-MG group at 10 yr. Five year survival rates were as follows: 92.6% in state I (complete encapsulation), 85.7% in stage II (invasion into pericapsular fatty tissue), 69.6% in stage III (invasion into surrounding organ) and 50% in stage IV (pleural dissemination or distant metastasis).
