Impaired function of the cardiopulmonary apparatus is evaluated in children with scolioses. The impaired function depends on the extent of spinal curvature and causes a reduced work capacity and a reduction of the mean life span. Detailed cardiorespiratory examination [ECG, spirometric examination, chest rheogram], serve as a basis for evaluation of the preoperative condition.
