The importance of ventricular function and noninvasive techniques led to several indexes obtained by mechanographic or echocardiographic methods. Patients (74) were subdivided into 21 with no clinical evidence of cardiac disorder, 21 with left ventricular volume overload, 23 with high blood pressure and 9 with clinical evidence of endomyocardial constrictive fibrosis. There is a good correlation between the mean sequential velocity of fiber lengthening (Vlcf.) at early diastole and the mean normalized rate of circumferential fiber shortening (Vcf) with fractional shortening. The relation between the Vlcf1 and the Vcf is given in an equation. In pathological subjects when the ventricular function is conserved, there is an increase in the Vlcf1, maximal diastolic septal velocity and maximal diastolic posterior wall velocity. When the ventricular function is altered there is a decrease in these diastolic events under normal values. The importance of the diastolic properties of the myocardial ventricular wall, which probably process to an active phenomenon, is demonstrated.
