Clinico-biochemical comparisons in nonspecific respiratory diseases

The content of several glycoproteins in serum and urine of patients with chronic nonobstructive bronchitis, chronic obstructive bronchitis, infectious-allergic bronchial asthma and acute focal pneumonia was determined. Levels of total glycoproteins and individual components (seromucoid, haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin) in the blood increased during acute pneumonia, bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis. The highest levels of individual components (with the exception of total glycoproteins) were found in the serum of patients with acute pneumonia. Similar increases were noted for glycoprotein levels in the urine. Glycoprotein levels in serum and urine reflect the degree of inflammation in the lungs and can be correlated with clinical symptoms and laboratory data of these diseases.
