Pulmonary nocardiosis. Occurrence in men with systemic lupus erythematosus

Pulmonary Nocardia asteroides infection developed in 3 male patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, all of whom had been or were being treated with steroids and cytotoxic agents. Unlike 9 of 10 previously reported cases [RMVM 2, 2365; 4, 1886; 6, 1379, 1381, 2952; 7, 1568; 10, 1147; 11, 1229] these 3 patients survived the infection with appropriate therapy and subsequently either did well or died of other disease complications.
