Histological examination of vagus nerves obtained during surgery (bilateral vagotomy, associated with gastric drainage techniques) from 27 patients with gastroduodenal ulcer was performed. No pathological signs were found in 56% of the cases. In the rest of the cases, moderate congestive and dystrophic phenomena of the myelin sheaths occurred, which express primary and secondary functional disorders of the vagus nerves. In only 2 patients were there advanced destructive vagal and vagosclerotic lesions, disputing the frequency of such lesions in gastroduodenal ulcer.
