Three dogs with primary metabolic seborrhoea of endocrine origin were treated with either of two thyroxine supplements or by castration. Before treatment the skin flora of the dogs was composed mainly of coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus. After treatment bacterial counts were lower and in two dogs (one from each treatment) in which seborrhoea was resolved the skin flora reverted mainly to coagulase-negative cocci. The third dog improved but still had minor signs of seborrhoea.
