Measurement of the urethal pressure profile allows the identification of a group of women whose urinary incontinence is due to sphincter weakness. In such cases, a signficant degree of improvement, both symptomatic and in the profile amplitude, follows treatment by maximal faradic stimulation of the pelvic muscles and perineal muscle exercises.
