Dr. McArthur should be praised for describing abortion in fetal abnormality for what it is. The concept of quality control has insinuated itself into the practice of some physicians and is invoked in an effort to control the "standard" of human lives by selecting some to be eliminated prior to birth as well as after birth. In Dr. Barnett's censure of Dr. McArthur, she gives every indication of failing to perceive the essential fact that in antenatal diagnosis of fetal abnormality the essential business is the ending of the life of a 3rd party if the quality of that life is judged to be "unacceptable."
