The pneumatic balance resuscitator is of the intermittent positive pressure type of respirator. With this device, oxygen under constant pressure is applied internally to the lungs of the subject through a face mask, causing inspiration. The mask pressure is then automatically cut oft, and expiration proceeds as a passive process as in normal respiration. The PBR is a small, compact valve which may be easily taken apart, sterilized, and reassembled. It is very simple and has a minimum of moving parts.
