Malaria occurs in the northeastern corner of the Republic of South Africa particularly the Transvaal lowveld. The number of cases has increased during recent years. There were 1,723 cases notified in 1974 and 3,492 in 1977. The preliminary forecast for 1978 is about 7.500 notifications.
