A 15% representative sample of the inhabitants of Abis II village, near Alexandria, Egypt, was examined for parasites. Examination of faecal samples from 547 and urine samples from 528 individuals revealed Schistosoma mansoni in 41.3%, Entamoeba histolytica in 17.3%, Giardia lamblia in 11.2%, Ascaris lumbricoides in 10.6%, Hymenolepis nana in 9.5%, Fasciola spp. in 7.3% and S. haematobium in 6.6%. Fasciola infection was detected in one or more member of 38.5% of the families in the village. 13 of 15 cows and water buffaloes examined had Fasciola eggs in the faeces.
