A moderate amount of exercise at normal temperature provokes a flow increase greater than that following hyperthermia and exercise in hyperthermia. Since the poor adaptation of the peripheral circulation to stress in hyperthermia could be attributed to the inhibiting action of heat on the venomotor tone, the effect of raubasine was tested. Eight normal subjects were submitted to tests [lower limb rheography, bicycle exercise ergometry and hyperthermic effects] both before and after treatment with the alkaloid. After raubasine, the peripheral flow registered a marked increase at rest and further increase after effort, while both hyperthermia and exercise during hyperthermia cause a relative decrease in the flow, with heavier cardiac work.
