Chatelguyon thermal springs and amoebiasis

About 22 000 patients attend the thermal springs of Chatelguyon every year, and it is estimated that about 3000 do so on account of post-amoebic colitis. The symptoms of this condition are reviewed and the treatment given at Chatelguyon is decribed. The waters contain a high level of magnesium salts and possibly these reactivate the amoebiasis and increase the specific antibodies. If any cysts of Entomoeba histolytica (including the minuta forms) are present, a standard course of antiamoebic treatment should be given.
