Based on serial sections of staged human embryos, the course and ramifications of the vagus nerves in the 6th, 7th and 8th wk were traced. At the beginning of the 6th wk the vagus nerve possesses all the 4 segments which give off branches to the developing organs. The differentiation of neuroblasts and glial cells takes place early in the intrauterine development.
