The single most important thing trustees can do to become more effective is to recognize and correct deficiencies in governance that impede individual effectiveness. This article suggest five conditions in corporate and hospital governance that cause directors and trustees to be ineffective, as well as several additional obstacles reasonably unique to health care institutions, and offers remedies for dealing with them.
