An extensive peripheral neuropathy was discovered in 2 human cases of confirmed rabies encephalitis. Results of electrophysiological studies proved the authenticity of this infection and showed that it was related to an axonal neuropathy. The rabies infection diffuses into the whole of the nervous system well beyond the cerebral trunk and encephalic structures, which are the elective sites on which the virus acts.
