A Thai girl was admitted to hospital in agonizing pain. A tender mass was palpated at the right lumbar area. Barium enema demonstrated an "apple core" filling defect at the ascending colon. Conservative treatment was chosen because clinical and epidemiological evidence suggested visceral gnathostomiasis. The mass became non-palpable in 6 weeks. Barium enema was completely normal in about 3 months.[AS].
