A survey on the human incidence of scabies (caused by Sarcoptes scabiei) was carried out over a 3-4 yr period in the districts of Soweto, Coronation and Natalspruit (Transvaal, South Africa). According to the data there has been a gradual increase in the annual incidence, but the morbidity has not yet reached the proportion of an epidemic. Therapeutic and prophylactic measures adopted in the areas for the benefit of the assisted populations should be sufficient for dropping the incidence index.
