A portable apparatus for concentrating bacteriophages from up to 200 of raw water is described. With this apparatus 8 morphologically diverse phages were concentrated from 20 l to 10 ml with recoveries of 14-66%, representing concentration factors of x280-x1320. The apparatus was also used to concentrate indigenous phages from 25 samples of river water.
