Valgus-varus stability in a hinged cast used for controlled mobilization of the knee

Plaster casts and specially molded knee cast braces are compared in human cadaveric knees by stress tests and roentgenograms. Braces are more stress stable following simulated femoral fractures, torn ligaments and tibial plateau fractures. Cast braces are suggested for immobilization following traumatic knee injuries or surgery.
