From day 11-13 of pregnancy the sensitivity of random-bred ICR mice to the teratogenic effect (cleft palate induction) of a single i.m. dose of 2.5 mg cortisone acetate is lowest on the 11th day. The mean percentages of fetuses with cleft palate per litter do not differ statistically after the administration of cortisone on day 12 and 13 of pregnancy which may be due to the variability of the embryos' biological ages on day 12 and 13 of pregnancy.
