During 31/2 yr the author saw 26 720 patients with primary skin and venereal diseases of whom 1548 (5.8%) had fungal infections. Of these 609 had diseases due to Microsporum and Trichophyton spp. (526 scalp infections in children and 83 cases of microsporosis of the glabrous skin), 717 pityriasis versicolor [Malassezia furfur], 205 T. rubrum infection, 12 candidiasis and 5 deep-seated mycosis [2 actinomycosis, 1 mycetoma and 2 Gilchrist's blastomycosis [Blastomyces dermatitidis] localized on the buttocks).
