Gallstones and bile from Sudanese patients with gallstones were analysed for calcium, phosphorus and cholesterol. The predominant calcium salt in gallstones was the phosphate. Cholesterol was a major component of all calculi. Bile analysis led to the conclusion that it is a supersaturated solution, the constituents of which are always on the verge of settling out.
