The subjects were 80 normal women 21 to 35 years old who had infants weighing 3 to 5 kg and above; controls were mothers of the same age whose infants weighed 2.5 to 3.49 kg. All the mothers were given a standard glucose tolerance test (SGTT) and later a triamcinolone glucose tolerance test (TGTT) was made in those mothers whose SGTT were normal. The test group showed positive SGTT in 5 mothers; 32 mothers had positive TGTT and 4 borderline TGTT. In the control group 4 mothers were TGTT positive. During a follow-up period, of 16 mothers in the test group 7 had positive TGTT and 1 positive SGTT; there was none in the control group. Past obstetric history showed total foetal loss of 11.4 and 1.5% in the test and control groups. Among heavy infants perinatal mortality was 7.5%, congenital malformations were 2.5%; a mild fall in blood Ca and K occurred in 32 and 48 infants.
