An ovitrap survey method was more sensitive than the single larva survey (SLS) method in detecting the presence of A. aegypti during low as well as high density periods in Todiwala Road, Pune city India . The species was detected by ovitraps in houses which were negative for larvae and adults. The ovitrap survey gave a consistently higher percentage of infested houses than the SLS method. The utility of the ovitrap method for surveillance and sampling the population of this vector species is highlighted.
