Treatment of scabies with hexicide and dixanthogen

The therapeutic effectiveness of lindane (as Hexicide, a cosmetically pleasant lotion) and dixanthogen (used in Vaseline) in treatment of scabies was compared on the basis of results of a clinical survey that comprised 110 patients who were treated with dixanthogen from 1968 to 1971 and 124 who were treated with lindane from 1972 to 1974. Both therapies were effective as all patients in both groups were cured. About 80% of the treated patients in both groups reported for the follow-up examination 2-3 weeks after treatment. It is concluded that lindane is in most instances preferable for the treatment of scabies as it is cosmetically acceptable and as effective as dixanthogen.
