Rehibilitation effects in epileptics undergoing occupational therapy in sheltered workshops

The rehabilitation effects were evaluated in 59 epileptic patients undergoing occupational therapy in sheltered workshops. The scale of Cheadle was used. Measurements were performed twice, first during probation time, and subsequently to evaluate the patients' actual state. The effects obtained by a patient during probation time averaged 23.68 points to 64 possible points in the scale; the actual mean was 6.19 points. The rehabilitation effects were mostly positive. Detailed analysis revealed that the rehabilitation of 14 patients had progressed by at least 20 points. Analysis of the actual clinical state has shown that these patients had had considerably fewer attacks (11 cases) and that their characteropathic features had become tempered (3 cases). The advisability of associating rehabilitation methods with active pharmacological treatment is supported.
