Some electroencephalographic peculiarities in patients with recurrent cerebrovascular strokes

EEG recordings in 48 patients with recurrent cerebrovascular strokes showed in some cases the following particular features: focal EEG abnormalities were located contralaterally to the clinically located lesion; EEG abnormalities appeared also contralaterally to the cerebral bioelectrical focus; the background tracing had a very small amplitude. The topography of cerebral localizations of recurrent strokes across time in the same or in several cerebrovascular territories is discussed in connection with the possibility of an EEG wrong location due to intracerebral blood steal, to the spread of focal abnormalities through the interhemispheric commissural system and to clinically silent cerebral damage with bioelectrical expression.
