A review of 3009 autopsies carried out at Chulalongkorn Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand from 1968 to 1976 revealed only 2 cases of schistosomiasis (both due to Schistosoma japonicum). In only one of these patients (a rice farmer from Pichit Province) was death significantly related to schistosomiasis. The other patient died of diffuse myocarditis and the presence of a few granulomata of S. japonicum eggs in the liver and lungs was an accidental postmortem finding. It is concluded that schistosomiasis is not a major health problem in Thailand.
