Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, Mycobacterium bovis PPD as antigen, was performed on serum from 33 naturally infected and 11 healthy badgers. Only 20 infected badgers were detected with the test, and many of the uninfected badgers gave significant colour reactions due to cross reacting mycobacterial antibody. The test was not improved by using whole-cell sonicated antigen.
