Agammaglobulinemia and poliomyelitis-like illness

A case of a child with chronic respiratory infection and aseptic meningitis complicated by persistent flaccid paralysis and seizures was reported. Agammaglobulinemia with normal thymus-derived lymphocyte function was demonstrated and a poliomyelitis-like process was manifested in the patient's clinical course. Immunoglobulin production may be critical in the host response to neurotropic viral agents.
