The efficiency of Hycolin and Stericol, both phenolic disinfectants used in thermometer baths at a dog kennels, were tested over a 3 week trial period. Three dilutions of each disinfectant were tested, using the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella edwardsii in the disinfectants to indicate inefficiency. It was shown that a 1% dilution of Hycolin was effective for 3 days, but a 2% dilution of Stericol was necessary to maintain the same effectiveness. Performance of 2% dilution of both disinfectants was similar over a 2 week period, with loss of activity during the third week.
