This report describes the current state of the art in nuclear cardiology, with special emphasis given to those techniques that at least preliminarily have shown themselves to be useful in the day-to-day care of cardiac patients. There is a brief discussion of some new techniques that are currently under investigation. The application of radioisotopes to problems in clinical cardiology is in a period of rapid growth. Currently, the major applications are in the area of detecting and localizing acute infarctions, assessing regional myocardial perfusion, and evaluating left ventricular performance.
