Groups of six young dogs were vaccinated at weeks 0, 4 and 52 with outer envelope or whole culture pentavalent vaccine against five species of leptospira, and their immune responses monitored for two years with the micro-agglutination (MA) test and the leptospiral activity (LA) test. Immunoglobulins M and G were produced in similar amounts in all dogs and both reacted to MA and LA tests, the former being more reactive to MA and the latter to LA. Direct correlation was found between protective antibodies determined by the hamster passive protection test and those reactive to MA and LA.
