Data are presented on type and localization of endocrine cells, stimulus for hormonal release, actions and clinical implications of the gastrointestinal hormones. The hormones were gastrin, secretin, cholecystokinin, gastric inhibitory polypeptide, motilin, enteroglycagon, substance P bombesin, vasoactive intestinal peptide, somatostatin pancreatic polypeptide and pancreatic glucagon and insulin. The topics discussed were: hypersecretion of gastrointestinal hormones in gastrinoma, vipoma, somatostatinome, enteroglucagonoma, pancreatic glucagonoma, insulinoma and pancreatic tumors with associated pancreatic polypeptide, hyperactivity of endocrine cells in G cell hyperplasia, pancreatic islet cell hyperplasia, hypercholecystokininemia, hypersecretinemia; and gastrointestinal hormones in diagnostic tests and therapy.
