Gangrenous colons associated with amoebiasis

The pathogenesis of gangrene and perforation of the colon associated with amoebiasis was studied by examination of 8 gangrenous, surgically resected colons in which amoebae had been histologically visualized. Abnormal colonic bacterial flora accelerated tissue invasion by Entamoeba histolytica.
