Of the myriad proteins produced in our bodies, insulin is a short one, just 51 amino acids long with a molecular weight of 5,808. It casts however, an immeasurably long footprint in the world of biology. Insulin has saved more lives than any other protein. No molecule has produced as many Nobel prizes either.
