Fluorescein angiography in tuberous sclerosis: case report

A careful search of the literature failed to reveal any previous report of fluorescein angiography in tuberous sclerosis with retinal involvement. The case presented focused attention on a gelatinous retinal lesion. The choroidal and retinal vasculature appeared normal. There was some blocked fluorescence in early choroidal phases. This disappeared in later phases. The extent of blockage depended on the density of the lesion. Nonperfusion of some surrounding choroidal areas in early phases is also found in normal eyes. The retinal phases of fluorescein angiography failed to reveal any vascular abnormality. Whether the above is a recurring feature of fluorescein angiography in the retinal lesion of tuberous sclerosis will only be borne out by a large series of patients with different size and density of the lesion.
