Fasting enteroglucagon was in 58 healthy persons 32 plus or minus 3, in 11 patients with untreated coeliac disease 97 plus or minus 31, in 8 patients with acute tropical sprue 260 plus or minus 70 and in 17 with severe steatorrhoea due to proven pancreatic insufficiency 63 plus or minus 10 pmol/litre. After a test meal values rose in healthy persons after 2 h to 55 plus or minus 4, in coeliac disease after 3 h to 263 plus or minus 62, in tropical sprue after 3 h to 289 plus or minus 73 and in steatorrhoea after 2 h to 87 plus or minus 15 pmol/litre. The 3-h incremental integrated release value was significantly higher in coeliac disease than in normal persons.
