Case histories of 2 patients, a 33 yr old female and a 38 yr old male, both diagnosed as having echinococcosis of the bile ducts, are described. Both patients complained of pains in the right subcostal region, accompanied by a high temperature. Blood analysis, urinalysis and a duodenal probe, were followed by further surgical intervention. The female patient died several days after surgery, the male patient was given conservative treatment, including cholegogics, antibiotics and a spare diet, resulting in full recovery. Based on these 2 cases recommendations are made in favor of conservative treatment.
